Abstract

This paper examines the crucial role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a catalyst for teaching and learning, driving academic, economic, political, and social development without constraints of time, space, gender, or age. It explores the concept of ICT integration in education and identifies major challenges such as corruption, inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, lack of skilled manpower, negative user perceptions, unreliable power supply, community conflicts, and insufficient institutional support. The study proposes eight practical solutions, including government and NGO provision of ICT facilities, compulsory teacher training through workshops and seminars, and making computer literacy a fundamental qualification for educators. The paper highlights the applications and benefits of ICT in education and concludes with six recommendations aimed at sustaining an effective ICT environment in Nigeria’s educational system and beyond.
