Abstract

This study explores the influence of corporate culture on the selection of managerial leadership styles in Nigerian banks, focusing on First Bank Plc and Sterling Bank Plc within the Jos Business Unit. Using a merged questionnaire based on Charles Handy’s organizational culture framework and Rensis Likert’s leadership styles, data were collected from 180 staff, with 163 valid responses analyzed using SPSS version 19.0. Four hypotheses were tested through Simple Linear Regression. Findings revealed no significant relationship between power culture and exploitative-authoritative leadership, role culture and benevolent-authoritative leadership, task culture and consultative leadership, or person culture and participative leadership. The study concludes that corporate culture does not significantly influence the choice of managerial leadership styles in the studied banks. It recommends that managers adopt leadership styles based on situational and strategic considerations rather than organizational culture alone
