Abstract

The accounting profession faces mounting challenges in recruiting and retaining high-quality personnel, a priority underscored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) since it began surveying accounting firms in 1997. With a projected 13% growth in the accounting sector from 2012 to 2022, the demand for skilled accountants is expected to intensify. This trend places increasing pressure on firms to attract and retain top talent in a competitive job market. The evolving workforce dynamics, influenced by generational differences in work preferences and values, further complicate these efforts. Understanding these generational perspectives is crucial for accounting firms seeking to develop effective recruitment and retention strategies. This study explores the impact of generational differences on work approaches within the accounting sector, examining how firms can adapt to these shifts to maintain a robust and motivated workforce. The findings highlight the importance of tailoring recruitment and retention strategies to align with the diverse needs and expectations of different generations in the workforce, ensuring the sustained success of accounting firms in an ever-changing industry landscape
