Abstract

Liver diseases, encompassing conditions such as cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, and liver cancer, exact a staggering toll on global health, contributing to at least two million deaths annually (Devarbhavi et al., 2023). Liver cancer, in particular, stands as the fourth leading cause of cancerrelated mortality worldwide (Borrello and Mann, 2022). Among the myriad factors implicated in the pathogenesis of liver diseases, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) play pivotal roles, serving as byproducts of oxygen and nitrogen metabolism, respectively (Li et al., 2015; Ramos-Tovar and Muriel, 2020). While ROS are integral to various physiological processes, including microbial defense mechanisms and signal transduction pathways, their excessive production can lead to oxidative stress and subsequent tissue damage, contributing to the development and progression of liver diseases.
