The intersection between Commercial Sex Work (CSW) and urban tourism presents a complex and intriguing dynamic in the contemporary era. This paper delves into the evolving landscape of urban tourism in the 21st century, examining the potential role of CSW in shaping and influencing this domain. Despite its controversial nature, CSW remains a significant aspect of urban life, yet is often subjected to stigma and legal marginalization, particularly in societies characterized by religious conservatism. Drawing upon insights from scholars such as De Dieu Longo et al. (2017) and Antebi-Grusizka et al. (2019), this study elucidates the pervasive stigma surrounding sex work, highlighting its implications for the livelihoods and rights of CSWs, particularly in African contexts. Furthermore, Fedorko et al. (2021) shed light on the heightened vulnerabilities faced by sex workers during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, wherein they were marginalized from socioeconomic support systems. By critically examining these issues, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding CSW and its intersections with urban tourism. Through nuanced analysis, this paper aims to stimulate discourse among researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders, ultimately fostering more inclusive and rights-based approaches towards addressing the needs and realities of sex workers within urban tourism contexts.
